TENNIS- French Open champion Rafael Nadal has revealed that he nearly dropped out of the season following a knee injury in Indian Wells.
Nadal was forced to withdraw from Indian Wells in March after a long standing knee injury started troubling him again.
“Mentally, after Indian Wells, I suffered a major downturn,” the Spaniard told the ATP’s website. “I considered shutting down my season to see if my body would recuperate instead of playing through injury after injury.
“I was reluctant and hesitant to return. Physically, because of another tendon tear in my knee, and on top of going through all the treatment required in the recovery process, there was dealing with the pain.”
Nadal’s record 12th French Open title on Sunday puts him two grand slam titles behind Swiss great Roger Federer with an all-time record of 20.
