WASHINGTON- US President Donald Trump confirmed in a statement on Saturday that late Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden’s son and potential successor Hamza bin Laden was killed in a US counterterrorism operation in the Afghanistan/Pakistan region.
Trump did not reveal when the operation took place or where Hamza died.
"The loss of Hamza bin Laden not only deprives al-Qa'ida of important leadership skills and the symbolic connection to his father, but undermines important operational activities of the group," the President said in the statement.
Trump also said "Hamza bin Laden was responsible for planning and dealing with various terrorist groups."
Earlier in August it was reported that Hamza had been killed sometime in the last two years in an operation that involved the United States.
