Earlier, when the board results used to be out, the schools were lauded for their performance. Now due to privatization in education, the credit is largely taken by private coaching institutes for the success stories of students. In a crackdown at private coaching institutes that are running illegally at the time of school hours, the Chandigarh Administration has once again given strict warning to such institutes and asked them not to hold classes during 8 am to 3 pm.
It has been alleged that most of the government and private schools have been working in league with private coaching centres. In the recent board results of Class X and XII, the results of the schools have suffered because several students bunked school to attend coaching classes.
With increasing competition, the city has now become a hub of coaching centres after New Delhi especially for IIT and NEET aspirants. City witnesses large number of students coming from nearby states for coaching. To curb the menace of bunking schools and enhance the role of schools in the life of students, the UT Administration has barred coaching institutes to hold classes during school hours under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code or CrPC.
