BUSINESS- Engineering firm Rolls Royce will cut 4,600 jobs as part of a major company reorganization drive that wants to shift the focus on civil aerospace, defence and power systems.
Middle managers and back-office staff will bear the brunt of the cuts. About a third of the job cuts are expected to happen by the end of this year while the rest will occur next year.
Chief executive Warren East told the BBC's Today programme, “We have too complex a management and support organisation and we need to simplify that so that we can remain competitive."
Rolls Royce expects it will cost £500m to carry out the changes.
