The misappropriation of funds, theft and other irregularities are commonly seen in government machinery. This time, as per the audit report of the Chandigarh sport council for 2013 to 2016, it was found that the UT top officials including the officials from Governor House have taken the benefit of council funds for purchasing goods for their own use.

The reports depicted that the officials who benefited from the council funds include the then UT Advisor to Chandigarh Administration, the then Home Secretary and Secretary, Chandigarh Sports Council, and other senior officers of the UT Administration.

As a matter of fact, a whopping amount was spent in the purchase of various equipments without floating any tender. Along with this it was disclosed that an amount of Rs 89,802 was spent only for buying items for the then UT Adviser. The items included a motorised treadmill purchased at the cost of Rs 60,585 on February 6, 2015.

Amid this the council has shown resentment over the misuse of funds. The Sport council maintained that the main objective of the UT Sports Council is to promote sports in the city and not to provide items at the houses of officers.
