FOOTBALL- FIFA president Gianni Infantino has announced that he will stand for re-election in 2019.
Infantino took over as FIFA head in 2016 from long time president Sepp Blatter who was forced to step down following a corruption scandal.
Blatter is being investigated by Swiss prosecutors for corruption during his 17 year reign which also garnered wrong publicity for bribery rumours during the handing over of 2018 and 2022 World Cup rights to Russia and Qatar.
It was during Infantino’s reign that he tried to build a sound financial footing and also addressed corruption allegations against FIFA.
He is also credited with introducing innovative systems such as Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
