While the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has not been able to take any effective step as far as dadumajra garbage disposal plant is concerned, the sectors near the dadumajra colony have been turning into a permanent dumping ground. Amid this the parks meant for children and adults have become a garbage dump.
Neha Sharma, who has recently shifted from sector 15 to sector 38 asserted that she is being troubled by the foul smell in her rental apartment from last few days. She said, the smell starts coming during the evening hours and last till midnight hours. On asking about the smell, she came to know that the MC workers burn the garbage that is collected in a park in the locality which produces foul smell.
It shall be noted that this big park is on the outskirts of the colony, facing towards the dividing road of Sectors 38 West and 39. On this dumping ground, heaps of rotting domestic waste is strewn all over a space that belongs to the nearby village.
It shall be noted that not only the UT Administration even Central minister Hardeep Singh Puri could not do much about the waste processing, despite making tall claims. Presently, the city is lagging in solid waste management with only 30 per cent of the waste generated being processed.
