Women Safety woes, one booked, other held guilty in different rape cases

Chandigarh that is known to be the City beautiful has lost its entire safe environment behind the dark and grim picture where the women are being raped and assaulted. Recently an eye-opener case emerged where a 45 year stepfather raped his 13 year old daughter. In the other case a 18 year old has been held guilty for abducting and raping a 14 year old girl. The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on February 15 in the second case.

In the first case, the accused is a resident of Govindpura in Manimajra and works at a furniture shop. The victim in the incident who is a minor girl asserted that the accused has been raping her for the last 4 months. Chandigarh Police has registered an FIR against the accused and a case of rape under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered at the Manimajra police station. It is notable to mention that the outskirts of Chandigarh including the villages Manimajra, Dadumajra, Dhanas are more prone to rape incidents.

While the heinous act of raping a minor by a 18 year old dates back to March 11, 2016, when a complaint was received by the police alleging that Asif Khan, the accused had abducted and raped a 14-year-old girl. Later on the case under Sections 376 and 363 of the IPC and Sections 6 and 8 of the POCSO Act was registered against him. The local court after hearing all the arguments in the case over an year held the accused guilty.
