PYEONGCHANG- Japanese short-track speed skater Kei Saito has become the first athlete to get a doping suspension at the 2018 Winter Olympics at Pyeongchang, South Korea.

He tested positive for acetalozamide, a banned diuretic which is considered a masking agent. The test was done before the start of the tournament.

Until a full investigation is conducted, Saito will remain suspended from the Olympics and other competitions. He also left the athletes Olympic Village.

Saito claims he is innocent and is ready to fight to prove the same.

“I want to fight to prove my innocence because I don’t remember (taking the drug) and it’s incomprehensible,” Saito said in a statement.

Japan has also become embarrassed by the incident especially since they host the next Olympics, the Summer Games, in 2020.
