Providing shelter to the homeless, Punjab Government exempts poor from House Tax

Considering the urban development schemes by Punjab Government, much relief has been provided to the people going in line with the smart city projects. In the latest development, Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu has put icing on the cake after announcing dual benefit to the poor under the Housing for All Scheme. The Minister has given big relief to the beneficiaries of the scheme by announcing the Punjab government’s decision to exempt the poor from the tax on the houses.

Along with this, the efforts made by Punjab Government were also lauded by the minister of state for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Puri. Puri has appreciated Amarinder Singh Government for implementing the urban development programmes and schemes in letter and spirit in the state. It is notable to mention that till now, approximately 4.7 lakh people have applied for the houses. However, the government is taking the final call on the applications by checking the eligibility of the applicants.

As per the Housing for all schemes, the homeless belonging to SC/STs will be provided with the houses free of cost while for General category beneficiaries, financial assistance worth Rs. 1.50 lakh for constructing houses will be provided.

It is pertinent to mention that Punjab government will be taking up 55 Smart city projects worth Rs 6,090 crores. For providing shelter to the urban poor, the Punjab Government has demanded Rs 38 crores under the Housing Scheme. The dedicated amount will be spent on more than 50 cities and towns with regard to various developmental schemes of the government.
