While the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan gained momentum in many parts of Chandigarh, few villages are still out of the reach of what Swachh Bharat is and how Swachhta App works. As a part of National Youth Week celebrations, the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan after celebrating Lohri with the elderly last night decided to visit Village Khuda Jassu to spread the message of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

The volunteers of NYKS visited the village on January 14 during the morning hours in which they initiated cleanliness drive in which all the roads, drains and other areas were cleaned by the volunteers with the help of Villagers.

During the drive, District Youth Coordinator, Paramjeet Singh was also present. After the volunteers had cleaned the village roads, Paramjeet Singh addressed the villagers on the issue of cleanliness and he also informed them about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission. He also introduced them to the Swachhta app and asked them to download it. During the drive, Village Sarpanch Paramjeet Kaur and Zila Parishad member Balwinder Sharma were also present.

Spread on 482 acres and with a population of 7,000, Khuda Jassu village is located just a kilometre away from the PGI, Chandigarh. Lacking several basic amenities, the village falls outside the Municipal Corporation (MC) limits. The village is highly prone to breeding mosquitoes and resultant diseases due to lack of cleanliness.
