ISIS offshoot claims responsibility for the 2017 Niger attack on the United States

An Islamic State group Sahara offshoot has claimed responsibility for the Niger attack that claimed lives of 4 United States soldiers and 4 Nigerien troops.

On Friday, the Mauritanian Nouakchott News Agency reported that the self-professed Islamic State affiliate Abu al-Walid al-Sahrawi claimed responsibility for the October 4 attack about 120 miles (200 kilometres) north of Niger’s capital, Niamey.

According to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors jihadist websites, the news agency has carried messages from the affiliate before.
