PU Prof RS Loyal dies of cardiac arrest on a departmental excursion

Yet again a big loss for Panjab University Chandigarh as one of its eminent faculty member, Professor RS Loyal (59), Professor at Department of Geology left for his heavenly abode after he suffered a massive cardiac arrest while he was on his way to Bikaner on a field trip along with 30 MSc students of department.

As per the reports, Professor Loyal complained of a sudden chest pain while he was at a hotel in Rajgarh (Rajasthan). Though a private doctor was called for the check up, he was taken to the government hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Dr. Aakriti Gupta, an MDS student at Dr HS Judge Institute of Dental Sciences, while expressing grief over the sad demise of Professor Loyal asserted that she had met him just once and that a single meeting left an aesthetic impact on her. As per the students, Professor Loyal was a walking encyclopaedia and was so knowledgeable person who was keen on teaching.  

PU Vice Chancellor Professor Arun Kumar Grover has also expressed a sorrow on the demise of the varsity’s eminent faculty member. It is pertinent to mention that Professor Loyal was PhD from Department of Geology. His areas of research were Vertebrate Palaeontology, Biostratigraphy and palaeobiogeography. He started working in Panjab University in 1982 and was to retire in March 2018. Professor Loyal is survived by two daughters and wife, who is an advocate at Punjab and Haryana High Court.
