Japan Open: Novak Djokovic recovers from injury in first round

TENNIS- Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic recovered from left shoulder injury to beat 20-year-old Australian challenger Alexei Popyrin 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of men’s singles at the Japan Open on Tuesday.

While he won the singles match, he was not so fortunate on Monday when he lost the men’s doubles match with partner Filip Krajinovic.

In other men’s singles, Japanese wild card Taro Daniel pulled off an upset victory against second-seeded Borna Coric of Croatia, Japanese qualifier Yasutaka Uchiyama defeated French fourth-seed Benoit Paire, Reilly Opelka of the US defeated his countryman seventh-seed Taylor Fritz and Frenchman Gilles Simon cruised by Spanish qualifier Pablo Andujar.
