TENNIS- The Indian Davis Cup team led by Mahesh Bhupathi has asked for the Davis Cup tie against Pakistan to be shifted to a neutral venue.

India is scheduled to play against Pakistan in the Asia Oceania Group 1 tie on September 14-15 in Islamabad.

But the rise in political tensions between the two neighbours prompted the All India Tennis Association (AITA) to say that they will seek a neutral venue. The players were left disappointed when AITA retracted from its statement and only asked for a security re-check from the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Talking the matter in their own hands, the players have now asked for the shift to a neutral venue.

Earlier Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju made it clear that the central government has no say in the matter as the Davis Cup tie is not a bilateral series and they can’t stop tennis players from travelling to Pakistan.
