FOOTBALL- Chinese football club Shanghai Shenhua will punish former Watford player Odion Ighalo for angering the club’s fans with his social media posts.

Ighalo, 30, has not played any match since the last three months because of an injury sustained during the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ighalo reportedly angered fans with his posts during his rehabilitation period with many accusing him of spending more time relaxing than recovering.

“(The club) criticised and educated Ighalo immediately and asked him to put all his energy into his rehabilitation and the club,” Shenhua said in a statement on the Twitter-like Weibo.

Ighalo will be “punished according to the team’s regulations”, the statement added, without giving specifics.
