Oscar winning filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker dies aged 94

NEW YORK- American documentary filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker has died of natural causes at the age of 94. He passed away on August 1 at his home in New York.

He is best known for the Bob Dylan documentary Don't Look Back and the 1973 film that captured David Bowie's final performance as Ziggy Stardust.

Pennebaker was honoured with a lifetime Oscar for being one of the pioneers of Direct Cinema.

Pennebaker is survived by his third wife Chris Hegedus.
