ISLAMABAD- The Pakistan government has reportedly decided to allow Pakistanis with dual nationalities to contest polls.
According to the information shared by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan, the issue was discussed in the Cabinet on Thursday and a decision was reached to allow dual citizens to contest polls to make them a part of the country’s political system.
Awan said the Cabinet discussed the voting rights and the mechanism to allow the overseas Pakistanis to become Members of Parliament.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had earlier started the process of registration of overseas Pakistanis as voters, but it stopped for some reasons. After PM Khan’s directions, it will soon be started again.
The decision, if implemented, will require an amendment to the Constitution.
