KATHMANDU- Nepalese government has denied a request by Tibetan people to hold birthday celebration of their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama who turned 84 years old on July 6.

The Dalai Lama’s followers in Nepal wanted to celebrate the occasion in Kathmandu but the communist government rejected their request.

Krishna Bahadur Katuwal, assistant district administrator of Kathmandu, said, “There could be a law and order problem as infiltrators could organise demonstrations or try to self-immolate.”

Meanwhile, hundreds of people joined the Dala Lama in the Indian city of Dharamsala to celebrate his birthday.
