CRICKET- Former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik has announced his retirement from ODI cricket after the team’s World Cup exit.
Malik, husband of Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, appeared in 287 ODI matches for Pakistan but played very little in the ongoing ICC World Cup.
Pakistan registered a 94 run win against Bangladesh at Lord’s but the win was of little value as the team was already out of the knock out stage.
“I’m sad as I’m leaving the format I loved the most but this will allow me to spend more time with my family and concentrate on the Twenty20 World Cup next year,” said Malik.
Malik admitted that his wish to end his career on a high could not be fulfilled but he is nonetheless satisfied with his ODI career and called the Champions League win the highlight of his career.
