TENNIS- American tennis legend Serena Williams has called 15 year old Cori Gauff the new poster girl of tennis.
Gauff, the youngest to play Wimbledon, on Monday defeated Serena’s sister Venus Williams in the first round of women’s singles.
After the win, Cori revealed that the Williams sisters have been her inspiration and she has a poster of Serena on her bedroom wall.
“Honestly, I feel honoured that I was on her wall at some point in her life,” said Williams after her 6-2, 7-5 first round win over Italian qualifier Giulia Gatto-Monticone.
“Soon she’ll be on other girls’ walls. It’s nice, because it will keep it going from the next generation to next generation.”
Williams, 23 time grand slam winner, will equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 titles if she wins the Wimbledon.
