FOOTBALL- I-League clubs are planning to take legal action against the All Indian Football Federation’s (AIFF) decision to increase penalty for non-participation in the Super Cup.

AIFF recently announced that clubs will face an increased penalty of Rs 27.5 lakh from Rs 10 lakh if they do not participate in the Super Cup.

Aizawl FC, NEROCA FC, Gokulam Kerala, Churchill Brothers, East Bengal and Minerva Punjab have been asked to pay the fine.

Calling the increase penalty nothing short of unfair, Gokulam FC president V.C. Praveen said, “We are already losing money in football and then this huge penalty for no fault of us. In fact, this is the only tournament in India that has no participation fee. The club itself has to bear the cost of travel, boarding and other expenses. We will appeal and take legal steps also.”

All other clubs are tight lipped about the development and have adopted the wait and watch policy.
