Russian plane crash that killed 41 was caused by lightning

MOSCOW- The Russian Sukhoi superjet 100 aircraft that crashed in Moscow last month killing 41 people was struck by lightning, investigation has confirmed.

The plane carrying 73 passengers and five crew members was flying from Moscow to the northern Russian city of Murmansk. When it landed at Moscow's Sheremtyevo airport on May 5, it caught fire after bouncing along the tarmac.

Preliminary report from the Interstate Aviation Committee has presented for the first time a detailed reconstruction of what happened, highlighting several important moments. A final report on the crash is yet to be issued.
