FOOTBALL- Montenegro on Saturday sacked national coach Ljubisa Tumbakovic following his absence in the European Championship qualifier against Kosovo.

Tumbakovic and two other Serbia born players Filip Stojkovic and Mirko Ivanic pulled out of the match as Serbia does not recognize the independence of Kosovo.

Montenegro's football federation (FSCG) said in a statement, “Apart from being an unpleasant surprise, Tumbakovic's move also constitutes a breach of his professional duties stipulated by his contract."

"Things which have nothing to do with sports have defeated sports and football on this occasion," added the FSCG statement.

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008 and is recognized as an independent country by the United States and major European Union (EU) countries.
