JAKARTA- Indonesians on Tuesday re-elected Joko Widodo as president amid allegations of cheating by rival and former general Prabowo Subianto. Mr Widodo won 55.5% of the vote to Mr Prabowo's 44.5%.
The result was released a day ahead of schedule in the early hours of Tuesday as authorities feared unrest. Security measures were also tightened.
While urging his supporters to remain calm, Mr Prabowo said he will pursue legal avenues to challenge the verdict.
Joko Widodo has been president since 2014 when he also beat Mr Prabowo in a hotly-contested vote.
