When everything is going well in Punjab Congress and the party is all set to sweep the elections in the state, Congress Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu creates trouble for the party as well as for himself by giving controversial statements regarding the party leadership in Punjab. Sidhu has always been criticized by Congress men for giving ill-timed statements.

When the state was going through election phase, statements by Sidhu regarding the denial of ticket to his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu has invited trouble for the Congress star campaigner who seems to be quite close with Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

While Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Punjab Health Minister Brahm Mohindra have already criticized Sidhu for such ill-timed statements, he has also been criticized by veteran trade unionist and permanent invitee to Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), MM Singh Cheema. MM Singh Cheema has asked Congress president Rahul Gandhi to take immediate and stern action against Sidhu for his highly irresponsible statements.

The fact to ponder here is that Rahul Gandhi despite knowing everything regarding the controversy pertaining Sidhu has always been reluctant to say anything against him. The point that can be raised is that the Gandhis might have strategically placed Sidhu to create an alternate leadership to maintain their stronghold in Punjab as Amarinder Singh is getting old and the party needs a strong face to continue its reign.

However for Sidhu, resorting to such tactics and cheap politics is not something that will help him elevate to the next level. He needs to maintain a subtle balance between his popularity and acceptance among people and party leaders in order to sustain.
