CRICKET- Afghanistan coach Phil Simmons will step down from his position after the end of ICC Men’s ODI World Cup.

Simmons, a former West Indies all-rounder, took over as Afghanistan national team coach in 2017.

Simmons said his main aim was to take Afghanistan to the World Cup and as he has achieved that target, he would like to leave and hence will now renew his contract.

“I have thought about it and I have actually given the ACB my notice that I will not be renewing my contract. I will move on to something different once my contract expires on July 15.”

The World Cup starts on May 30. Afghanistan will open their World Cup campaign against five-time champions Australia on June 1.
