There is no doubt that Punjab minister for Tourism and Cultural affairs Navjot Singh Sidhu is not new to controversies. Now when the nation was going through the last phase of the most crucial elections, the ‘Thoko Tali’ fame Sidhu once again sparked a controversy by giving statements that depicted how deliberate he was to spoil the show.

On the last day of polls, when the entire state of Punjab was witnessing election heat, Sidhu heated up the atmosphere even more by saying that he firmly stand by his wife over being denied party’s ticket. Not only this, Sidhu’s wife, former minister and Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu said Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh should resign if the Congress gets wiped out in the state in the Lok Sabha elections.

This came as a major blow to Congress party and its leaders and forced Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to speak out loud in the open. The rift was out in open as Captain said that Sidhu wants to replace him as CM. He even criticised Sidhu for damaging Congress with his ill-timed comments against the party leadership in the State.

Amid all the factionalism within Congress party, it can’t be denied that Sidhu who had started new innings ahead of the 2017 assembly elections by joining Congress nursed Chief Ministerial ambitions. However, it didn’t go down well with Captain Amarinder Singh. Sidhu, at the least, wanted the Deputy CM chair which was also denied by the CM.

In the past months, Sidhu has sparked many controversies due to which many Congress leaders from Punjab have criticised him. Several of his Congress colleagues feel that Sidhu is trying to run out the ‘Captain’ and is aggressively pitching himself as a successor to Amarinder. But the surprising situation is that the Congress central leadership appears to be putting its weight behind Sidhu who was even made the star campaigner for the Lok Sabha polls. Captain Amarinder has never spoken so openly about the rift between him and Sidhu but this time the statement by Captain depicts that even he seems to be insecure of Sidhu.
