KATHMANDU- Nepalese Sherpa Kami Rita on Wednesday broke his own record of Mount Everest summits as he reached the peak for the 23rd time.

Sherpa reached the summit Wednesday morning, breaking his own record that he set last year, his expedition company confirmed.

Sherpa Kami first summited the 8,848-metre (29,029-foot) peak in 1994. He has also conquered world’s second-highest mountain, K2 in Pakistan.

Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay made the first ascent of Everest in 1953.
