CRICKET- A struggling Rajasthan Royals has appointed Steve Smith as its new captain for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Smith will replace Ajinkya Rahane under whose leadership the team dropped to last second spot in the IPL rankings table.
Zubin Bharucha, Head of Cricket for Rajasthan Royals, said in a statement, “Ajinkya is and will always be a true Royal. He remains a key part of our side and leadership team and will extend support wherever required to Steve.”
Smith’s appointment as skipper is also surprising as he has not been very good with bat this season and will also leave IPL at the end of this month to join the Australian team in a preparatory camp for the upcoming World Cup.
Rajasthan Royals have collected four points so far with this IPL season two wins and six losses.
