A day after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced a major blow after its district president from Ludhiana (Urban) Daljeet Singh Grewal resigned from the party’s leadership and also from all the other posts, the party has announced youth leader Prof Tejpal Singh as its candidate for the Lok Sabha elections.

It shall be noted that Prof Tejpal Singh is the state vice-president of AAP youth wing. Professor Tejpal who holds a double master degree from Panjab University Chandigarh in police administration and philosophy and then doctorate in jails administration will be AAP’s candidate from Ludhiana.

Professor Tejpal has been associated with AAP since 2014. He has been with the party since the Janlokpal anti-corruption movement days. While the other parties are commonly seen fielding their veteran leaders, the Aam Aadmi Party is known for fielding young leaders. With this AAP becomes the first party to announce all 13 candidates from Punjab.

It has been a tough task for AAP to select a suitable candidate for Ludhiana. After the resignation of senior leader and Dakha MLA HS Phoolka who was AAP candidate from Ludhiana in 2014 parliamentary elections, there has been a void in the party especially in Ludhiana constituency. Now that party has found a replacement and fielded a young face, it will be an uphill task for Prof Tejpal to face Congress candidate Ravneet Bittu, PDA candidate Simarjit Singh Bains and SAD-BJP candidate Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal.
