BADMINTON- Indian Olympic medallist PV Sindhu defeated Chinese Cai Yanyan 13-21, 21-17, 21-14 to enter the semi-final of Singapore Open on Friday.
It was curtains for Saina Nehwal who lost 21-8, 21-13 to nemesis Okuhara in the quarter-final stage.
Sindhu will now face Okuhara in the semi-final for a place in the final.
In the men’s singles, Sameer Verma lost 21-10, 15-21, 21-15 in an hour and nine minutes to second seed Chou Tien Chen. Kidambi Srikanth would take on top seed Kento Momota in the day’s last quarterfinal.
India’s challenge in mixed doubles category also came to an end when Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy went down 21-14, 21-16 against Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand.
