CRICKET- Cricket Australia (CA) has appointed former captain Ricky Ponting as assistant coach for the upcoming 2019 World Cup.
Ponting, 44, had led Australia to two world Cup victories and his experience will prove invaluable to the players, believes CA. Ponting will work with Australia’s batsmen for the May 30-July 14 tournament in England.
Australian team’s head coach Justin Langer welcomed the appointment and said, “Ponting has an impressive understanding of the game, he knows what’s required to prepare and perform at the elite level, and we can’t wait for him to get started working with the squad.”
Meanwhile, Australia’s current batting coach Graeme Hick will concentrate solely on getting the team ready for the Ashes tour in England, starting in August.
