A day after a city based advocate filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Punjab and Haryana High court against the relaxation in the hostel timings, Panjab University Campus Student Council (PUCSC) president Kanupriya came ahead lashing out at the already existing patriarchal ideas and prejudices.

It shall be noted that PUCSC President Kanupriya is also impleaded as a party as the court also wanted to hear her stand on the issue. She has been asked to appear in front of division bench of Chief Justice Krishan Murari and Justice Arun Palli.

Meanwhile, Kanupriya has extended her gratitude to Chief Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Arun Palli for giving her a chance to present her views on the behalf of the student community. She said that she is representing the entire student community of PU standing against gender biases prevalent in hostel timings of PU and patriarchy at large.

Also, she said that her fight is constitutionally and legally correct as the constitution of India guarantees no discrimination on the basis of gender. Speaking about the PIL, she said that the questioning of amendments in hostel rules book by the petitioner is vague and entirely baseless as university is an autonomous body and has the power to alter its rule anytime through its governing bodies- the Syndicate and Senate.

It is pertinent to mention that PUCSC President along with other student parties including SFS, PSU Lalkar has been sitting on an indefinite strike from the last 38 days.
