FOOTBALL- Chandigarh Sports Department has imposed a three year ban on Minerva Punjab FC, reigning I-League champions, for fielding three overage players in the Under-17 Administration’s Cup final against Chandigarh Football Academy (CFA).

Minerva Punjab is owned by Ranjit Bajaj. The match in reference was played on September 30.

The Sports Department now plans to give the winning prize money of Rs 3 lakh and the trophy to CFA.

Minerva Punjab has denied the charges. They say they will move court against the order.

“All these allegations are baseless. It was the CFA that fielded an overage player in the final.”

“The inquiry committee comprised the CFA coaches and technical staff mostly. Once we made the objection, the department claimed to have changed the members, but it was done behind closed doors.”

Minerva Punjab has been winning the tournament for last three years.
