US Marine Aircraft Crash Off Japanese Coast

IWAKUNI: The United States Marine Corps on Wednesday said that two Marine planes crashed off the coast of Japan. As of now, a search and rescue operation is underway.

According to defense officials, five people were aboard a KC-130 aircraft, while two persons were onboard an F/A 18. One Marine was confirmed to have been rescued, a Marine Corps spokesperson said. The aircraft had taken off from Japan at around 2 AM local time on Thursday.

A US Marine Corps statement confirmed, “Search and rescue operations continue for US Marine Corps aircraft that were involved in a mishap off of the coast of Japan around 2:00 am local time) Dec. 6.”

The planes crashed around 320 kilometers off the coast of Iwakuni, a Marine Corps official told CNN.
