Former footballer appointed US men’s national team coach

FOOTBALL- Gregg Berhalter, 44, has been appointed the coach of US men’s national football team, US Soccer said on Sunday.

“This is a tremendous honour,” Berhalter said in a statement. “Having played for the national team I know what it means to represent our country.

“I believe in our players and our program, and together we will work to build something special and develop a team that will make our supporters proud.”

Berhalter resigned from the position of coach of Major League Soccer (MLS) side Columbus Crew to become the first US World Cup player to coach the men’s national team.

Berhalter will be officially introduced in his new job at a media conference on Tuesday.
