The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted bail to former Deputy Superintendent of Police Daljeet Singh Dhillon in a rape and drug case. DSP Dhillon is a former hockey player and has been behind the bars from last 5 months in Ropar district jail.

The case dates back to 2013 and pertains to the alleged rape case of a 26-year-old Ludhiana-based woman. She levelled allegations against Dhillon citing that the latter got her hooked on to heroin and also raped her. “Dhillon pushed me into drugs and after I got addicted to heroin, asked me to bring more girls that he could sell it to. He told me that the drugs he sold were purchased from smugglers and he sold it at ₹2,000 per 10 grams. Dhillon also offered me commission on selling drugs,” the woman had alleged.

Meanwhile, the court of Justice Fateh Deep Singh observed that it is the story of the prosecution that in due course, on the asking of the petitioner, the complainant used to supply him girls and in lieu of which he used to supply heroin to the complainant. However, he held that it doesn’t appeal to the mind of the court that she was forced to snuff the contraband. It was her own stand that she volunteered into alleged consensual relationship regarding which there was no medical evidence to establish the allegations of rape, Justice Fatehdeep asserted.
