The Haryana Court has finally announced its verdict in the impending case against the self styled godman, Rampal and other offenders in two murder cases. The court of additional District and Session judge D.R. Chalia convicted 29 persons, including four women in the two cases. However, the quantum of sentence will be pronounced on October 16 and 17.

The case dates back to November 19, 2014, when Rampal and 27 of his followers were charged with murder and wrongful confinement after four women and a child were found dead in his Satlok Ashram in Barwala in Hisar. Rampal was arrested in 2014 after his 12-acre ashram in Hisar was stormed by policemen. His followers were armed with stones, batons and guns. The days-long siege included Rampal using devotees as human shields.

Meanwhile, security was stepped up in Hisar and adjoining towns in the run-up to the court verdict. Police were deployed at the abandoned Satlok Ashram. District Magistrate Ashok Kumar Meena imposed Section 144 in Hisar prohibiting, carrying of weapons and gathering of five or more persons. He said that no one would be allowed to take the law in their hands.
