Weightlifter Jeremy wins first gold medal in India’s Youth Olympics history

BUENOS AIRES- Jeremy Lalrinnunga , 15, lifted a total weight of 274 kg to win India’s first ever gold medal in the Youth Olympics history on Monday.

Lalrinnunga won the gold in men’s 62 kg category. Turkey’s Cancer Toptas clinched silver while Colombia’s Estiven Jose Villar Manjarres took the bronze medal.

India’s medal tally now stands at four with one gold and three silver. Shooters Shahu Mane and Mehuli Ghosh and Judoka Tababi Devi won the silver medals earlier.

India won just two medals -- a silver and a bronze -- in the last Youth Olympics in 2014 in Nanjing in China.

India is being represented by a 47 member contingent at the Youth Olympics, it’s biggest ever.
