FOOTBALL- US sportswear giant Nike has expressed concern over the rape allegation levelled against Portugal and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Las Vegas police recently reopened a rape case against Ronaldo that dates back to 2009. Kathryn Mayorga claims Ronaldo raped her at a hotel room in 2009. She at that time filed a report against him but next year reached a settlement to never disclose the incident.

Ronaldo has a $1bn (£768m) worth contract with Nike.

In a statement, Nike said: "We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation."

EA Sports, which also has a contract with Ronaldo, said, “We are closely monitoring the situation, as we expect cover athletes and ambassadors to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with EA's values."

Ronaldo has denied the allegations and says he will cooperate with the investigation.
