YOUTH OLYMPICS- India’s young shooting sensation Manu Bhaker on Monday was named the country’s flag bearer at Youth Olympic Games.
The 16 year old will lead Indian contingent in the opening ceremony of the 3rd Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires from October 6-18.
“It is a great honour for me. I never expected to be the flag-bearer for the Indian contingent,” Manu told PTI.
The 68 member contingent, including 46 athletes, will depart for Argentina today. The send-off ceremony on Monday was attended by Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Narinder Batra, Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta.
“Gone are the days when Indians participated in big multi-sport events just for the sake of participation. I know you all will give your best and bring medals for the country,” Rathore Said motivating the team.
CWG and World Championship silver medallist shooter Mehuli Ghosh, Asian Games champion marksman Saurabh Chaudhary and Asian junior badminton champion Lakshya Sena are the major medal contenders.
