Amid increasing cybercrime threats faced by the residents in the city, the Chandigarh Administration has not given it a second thought to have a separate cyber police station in the city. However, the Chandigarh Police in a novel initiative are going to hire a junior forensic consultant to train the personnel of the cyber cell.

The new consultant would be hired under the Cyber Crime Prevention against women and Children Scheme of the MHA. With this the residents will be equipped with an online cybercrime portal and will then be able to file complaints online. A cyber forensic training lab will also be established. The Police will be trained to deal with the cybercrime related to women and children.

Meanwhile, a separate cyber Police station is the need of the hour in the city. Every year the cyber cell receives more than 15,000 complaints of online fraud and harassment on social media. Though, the new initiative will surely bring some change as the existing police officials will now be trained to deal with cybercrimes in a smarter way.
