CAROLINA- US is bracing itself for the historic hurricane Florence that is advancing towards its East coast with great speed.

Heavy rains are expected to inundate North and South Carolina on Friday.

North Carolina will see the equivalent of up to eight months of rain in a two- to three-day period, National Weather Service forecaster Brandon Locklear said in a video briefing.

Millions of people are at risk to be homeless. At least 88,000 people were without power in North Carolina even as the worst of the storm is yet to hit.

About 10 million people could be affected by the storm and more than 1 million had been ordered to evacuate the coasts of the Carolinas and Virginia.
