The last day of the ongoing monsoon session has ended and the fate of triple talaq still hangs in balance. The Rajya Sabha deferred the bill to the winter session of parliament owing to lack of consensus among the various political parties.

As far as Congress is concerned, Sonia Gandhi said that our party's stand is clear about this & everyone should support Triple Talaq. It is the easiest & fastest way to get divorce. No papers are wasted, court's time is also not wasted, no money needed for lawyers, one gets instant talaq, she added.

The opposition meanwhile was seen lashing at Modi government for using his cheap tactics by interfering in the affairs of Muslim community. Opposition leaders, including UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, held protest outside the Parliament against the Government demanding answers over Rafale deal, agrarian crisis and other issues.

In the latest development, the Cabinet has approved inclusion of a provision of granting bail to men accused of giving instant triple talaq to their wives. The sources also said “had the government been that keen to bring the Bill in this session, it would have got it cleared by the Cabinet earlier.
