GHAZNI- The Taliban launched a massive night time assault on the Afghan city of Ghazni, taking control of parts of the city.
Afghan security forces launched an offensive to take back the control of Ghazni, a provincial capital on the key highway between Kabul and Kandahar. Thirty Taliban fighters and one Afghan security force member were killed while eight civilians and seven government security personnel were injured.
The US military's Resolute Support mission had deployed attack helicopters and a drone to help Afghan forces repel the Taliban from Ghazni.
This is the fourth time that the Taliban have entered a provincial city. They briefly took the western city of Farah earlier this year. Before that the militants overran Kunduz, in the north.
