Ahead of the Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) Elections, the battle is on between Professor Ronki Ram’s group vs. Professor Rajesh Gill’s team. The elections for the post of PUTA President, Secretary and other posts are scheduled to be held on August 21 and the nominations have already been filed. Once again, the PUTA elections will focus on seeking Central University Status for PU and the implementation of 7th Pay Commission.

As per the reports, Professor Yog Raj, the Chairperson of Punjab Department will contest against the present PUTA President Professor Rajesh Gill. Much to everyone’s surprise, this time, Prof Akshaya Kumar, former PUTA president’s group is not contesting elections.  Professor Akshay said that “we are not supporting any candidate as a group, the field is open”.

Professor Yog Raj, the contender for the post of PUTA president asserted that our top priority is implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations for teachers. Professor Yog Raj also said that he was the first one who raised the issue of PhD increments for assistant professors in the Senate. We will get the issue resolved at the PU level, he said.
