After tricity fared poorly in the Ease of Doing business rankings among states and UTs in the list released by the World Bank and the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), the city has landed at 29th position out of 34 in the ease of doing business state rankings.
Amid this the industrials have shown resentment over Chandigarh’s rankings. Over the years, there has been no improvement. “Things have got difficult for businessmen in Chandigarh,” said Naveen Manglani who is the president of Chamber of Chandigarh Industries. Also, the traders and industrialists in Chandigarh are of the opinion that the UT Administration has initiated only a handful of reforms as far as ease of doing business in city is concerned.
It shall be noted that the Ease of doing business rankings were introduced with an aim to trigger competition among states to attract investment and improve the business climate. This time, Andhra Pradesh has topped the list while Telangna and Haryana landed at second and third position respectively. Even Punjab is ahead of Chandigarh with a rank of 20.
