In a high level meeting among Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Chandigarh Administrator VP Singh Badnore, the proposal tabled by Khattar in order to set up a Planning Board for Tricity was overturned by Captain Amarinder. Punjab CM stated that before taking any call on the joint operation, the status of Chandigarh needs to be resolved.

Claiming Punjab’s right over Chandigarh, Amarinder asserted that Punjab is indeed the only state in the world without its own capital. Calling Khattar, Amarinder expounded that Haryana being a new state should set up its own capital and Chandigarh being the historical right of Punjab shall be given back to Punjab.

As a matter of fact, Khattar wanted to set a tricity planning board in Chandigarh, but Captain simply rejected the proposal saying before taking up the new matters, the territorial and water issues between Punjab and Haryana would have to be addressed beforehand.

Also, Punjab CM rejected the suggestions of making Panjab University, a central university stating that Punjab will not share more resources with Haryana. The others issues concerning 60 percent share of Punjab in UT Administration and the alleged preference given to the AGMUT cadre was also taken up.
