FOOTBALL- Fernando Hierro will not continue in the role of Spanish national team’s football coach after the team lost on penalties to host nation Russia in the last 16 of FIFA 2018 World Cup.
“After travelling many kilometres together, the Spanish Football Federation and Fernando Hierro have put an end to their relationship,” the Spanish football federation said Sunday.
He will also not return to his previous position as sports director of the federation and will take new professional challenges.
Hierro had taken the place of Julen Lopetegui who was sacked on the eve of the World cup.
Earlier, former Barcelona great Andres Iniesta announced his retirement from international football after Spain’s loss to Russia.
